Just two weeks ago, Valeria Suárez made history in bodyboarding. At only 13 years old, she was crowned champion in the U13 category at the Bodyboard Camp Portofino 2026, held in the Atacama Region.
Born in Bolivia, she first discovered the ocean in 2017 when she moved with her family to Antofagasta, a region in northern Chile known for being part of the bodyboarding circuit promoted by Arturo Soto, founder and leader of Club Budeo, where the young athlete took her first steps in the sport.

It was then that she developed a special connection with the ocean, discovering her talent and passion for the waves. Since then, she has trained consistently, showing discipline and perseverance in every session — qualities that are now reflected in her recent victory.
The championship took place in Portofino, where Valeria stood out among competitors from different parts of the country, demonstrating confidence, technique, and determination throughout the competition. Her performance earned her first place in her category, marking a milestone in her sporting career.

"I felt very nervous but also happy to have won, since it was my first time going to Atacama to compete. It feels amazing and I’m proud of myself for giving my all and achieving first place in the development category," she told Club Budeo.
Beyond the result, her story has become an example of effort and perseverance. Coming from a country without direct access to the ocean, she has shown that borders are not a limitation when there is passion for sport and strong family support.

Today, Suárez is the first Bolivian national to win a championship in board sports. Her victory at Bodyboard Camp Portofino 2026 not only marks a personal achievement but also the beginning of her own journey, positioning her as one of the emerging talents in bodyboarding.

In search of new challenges, the young Bolivian continues training and preparing for future competitions to fulfill her dream of becoming a national champion, proudly representing her story, her family, and her path in bodyboarding.
