Located on the Nicoya Peninsula, in the province of Puntarenas, Santa Teresa has become a key destination for Central American surfing thanks to its consistent waves, warm waters, and relaxed atmosphere.
Santa Teresa is known for its beach breaks that work under different swell conditions, offering waves for much of the year. The best surf season typically runs from May to November, when Southern Hemisphere swells arrive more frequently to Costa Rica’s Pacific coast.

During these months, conditions can bring larger and more powerful waves, ideal for more experienced surfers, while the rest of the year offers smaller, more friendly waves, perfect for beginners. In addition, thanks to its several kilometers of coastline, different sand-bottom peaks can be found, helping to avoid crowds even during high season.

The beach has positioned itself as one of the key locations for the development of surfing in Central America, hosting important events and serving as one of the stops on the national circuit organized by the Federación de Surf de Costa Rica, which brings together local surfers and emerging talents from across the country.

Its combination of consistent waves, warm weather, and natural landscapes makes it an ideal place to learn to surf and enjoy memorable sessions year-round. Additionally, nearby spots such as Playa Hermosa and Mal País complement the variety of waves in the area and allow surfers to explore different conditions within just a few kilometers.

Santa Teresa represents the spirit of surfing in Costa Rica and has become an international destination thanks to its ocean-centered lifestyle. Surrounded by tropical jungle, long beaches, and iconic sunsets, the area attracts surfers, travelers, and photographers from around the world seeking a peaceful environment connected to the sea.
