The national delegation celebrated a standout performance at the South American Youth Games Panama 2026, where Antonia Gutiérrez claimed the gold medal in women's SUP Surf, becoming Team Chile's standout athlete at the event held in Playa Venao.


The Chilean showed consistency from the start of the competition. In the first main round, Gutiérrez scored 9.30 points, advancing in first place in her heat. Later, in the second round, she posted 7.63 points, surpassing Brazil’s Rebeka Klotz and qualifying for the final, where she ultimately defeated her rival to claim the gold medal, consolidating one of the most notable performances of the Chilean delegation.

In the women's SUP Race discipline, held in a single day, the Chilean athlete was unable to complete the race and had to withdraw, leaving her out of medal contention in that category.


Berry and Llorens advanced to final stages


In men's shortboard, Reimundo Berry delivered a solid performance, advancing confidently through the early rounds. The Chilean secured first place in main rounds 1, 2, and 3, reaching main round 4.


However, after losing to Brazilian Yuri Gabryel, Berry moved to repechage round 5, where he was eliminated on April 15 after scoring 10.93 points, being surpassed by Argentina’s Thiago Passeri.


Meanwhile, Pascual Llorens also delivered a strong performance. The Chilean advanced to main round 3 and later into the repechage, where he passed round 3 but was eliminated in repechage round 4 after losing to Colombia’s Romeo Chávez.


Women's shortboard: tight heats


In women's shortboard, Isidora Fernández advanced to repechage round 1 after finishing the first main round with a one-point difference behind Brazil’s Carol Bastides. The Chilean later won the first repechage round with 12.84 points, securing her continuation in the event.

However, in the following repechage round, she was eliminated after losing again by a narrow margin to Bastides, ending her participation in the tournament.


Bodyboard: Chilean participation in repechage


In women's bodyboard, Emiliana González advanced through the first repechage round after a strong performance that kept her in contention for bronze. However, she was eliminated in the second round on April 15 after losing to Peru’s Hannah Saavedra.


In men's bodyboard, Cristóbal Tobar was eliminated on April 14 after competing in the first repechage round, where he was surpassed by Brazil’s Andre Barros.


Strong performance from Team Chile


With these results, Team Chile concluded its participation with a gold medal in women's SUP Surf. Despite the eliminations, all Chilean representatives showed a strong level during their performances, maintaining Chile’s presence in the competition and gaining valuable international experience in the youth tournament.
