At the start of the 2026/2027 North American QS season, rising talents Bailey Turner and Parker Cohn broke through to secure their first QS titles at the Vans Jack’s Surfboards Pro 2026, held at Huntington Beach Pier.
Far from perfect conditions, the event unfolded in small, messy surf, forcing competitors to rely more on strategy than spectacle. Even so, the result not only delivered their first QS wins but also confirmed their ability to perform under pressure in challenging scenarios.

The women’s final turned into a game of patience, as Turner read the ocean better than her rivals and selected the right waves at the right time to defeat Reid Van Wagoner. In a heat where neither surfer managed to break away significantly, the local surfer tipped the scale with precise tactical decisions, using priority wisely and maximizing every opportunity in a demanding lineup.

In the men’s division, Cohn’s path had a different tone: total consistency. Without the need for explosive scores, he built each heat intelligently to reach the final. There, he faced Levi Slawson, one of the circuit’s most solid competitors. Cohn stayed composed, focused on safe wave selection, added key scores, and managed the pressure in the final minutes to secure the win.

Meanwhile, Van Wagoner and Slawson proved why they remain key contenders and are expected to play leading roles this season. Van Wagoner once again showed strength in difficult conditions, while Slawson maintained his progressive approach until the end, even attempting high-risk maneuvers that could have changed the outcome.
With this result, Turner and Cohn move to the top of the regional ranking of the World Surf League, setting the stage for a competitive season where consistency and wave reading could be just as crucial as technical ability. The next stop will be the Super Girl Surf Festival, where the race to advance through the QS will begin to take shape.
