Viviana Araya and the Story Behind the Filming of Her Queen of the Wave Episode

Viviana Araya’s documentary episode has begun to take shape. Over the past few days, we have accompanied the bodyboarder as she revisited the places that have shaped her story. More than following the athlete in competition, these filming days have allowed us to discover not only the competitor, but also the daughter, sister, aunt, and dreamer behind every wave.

Our first stop was Playa Chanavaya, a place that holds an important part of her history. There, we spent time with her family in conversations filled with pride and affection. They shared stories about her beginnings — about the restless little girl who found in bodyboarding a way of life, and how, from an early age, the ocean started shaping her path.

But they also spoke about the harder side that is not always visible: the distance, the absences, and the sacrifices that come with dedicating yourself to high-performance sport. The difficulty of not always having her at home. Because even though the life of a successful surfer may look free and perfect from the outside, behind it there are complex decisions that must be made so dreams can grow.

Another day took us to the desert and to Mamiña, landscapes deeply connected to her northern identity. In a more intimate conversation, Viviana opened up about her beginnings, the dreams that have driven her since childhood, and how yoga became a key complement to her physical and mental balance within bodyboarding.

The final day was at home. We filmed her routines, her daily preparation, what she eats, how she trains, and how she organizes her time before heading into the ocean. Later, we joined her in the water, that space where everything makes sense and where you truly understand why she chose this path.

This episode does not only portray the champion, but also the woman who pursues her goals and the athlete who has learned to balance passion and sacrifice.
