The World Title Enters Its Final Stretch After the Fiji Pro
With eight Championship Tour events completed, only four events remain to determine the new world champions of surfing, and the battle for the number one spot remains open in both the men's and women's divisions.
The World Surf League's Championship Tour officially entered its decisive stage after the eighth event, the Fiji Pro. The world rankings are beginning to take their final shape, although there are still four opportunities to change the picture before the 2026 champions are crowned.
In the men's division, Leonardo Fioravanti arrives at this stage of the calendar as the world leader. The Italian has accumulated 40,015 points, but holds only a narrow advantage over Brazil's Italo Ferreira, who has 39,930 points. In other words, just 85 points separate the two at the top, setting up one of the closest title races of the season.
Further down the rankings are other Brazilians, such as Yago Dora, who sits in third place with 37,695 points, and the experienced Gabriel Medina, who remains fourth with 35,410. Rounding out the Top 5, his compatriot Miguel Pupo has a total of 32,770 points.
In the women's division, five-time world champion Carissa Moore leads the rankings with 39,575 points, giving her a 2,510-point advantage over her compatriot Gabriela Bryan, who sits in second place with 37,065.
Third place belongs to American Sawyer Lindblad, who has 35,970 points, while Australia's Molly Picklum occupies fourth with 34,865. Rounding out the Top 5, Brazil's Luana Silva sits in fifth place with 33,835 points.
With four competitions still remaining, every result could significantly alter the rankings. In the men's division, Fioravanti and Italo Ferreira are engaged in an almost point-for-point battle for the number one spot, while in the women's division, Moore will look to extend her advantage over a chasing group that still has opportunities to close the gap.
The world's elite now has its sights set on the Lexus Trestles Pro, the ninth event of the Championship Tour, which will be held from September 11 to 20 in California, United States. The circuit will then continue with its final three events of the season, leaving increasingly little margin for those looking to reach the top.
