Matilda Bultó Makes Her Mark at the Only QS 6000 in the Americas

The Chilean surfer reached the Round of 64 at the WSL REMA Saquarema Surf Festival and battled until the final minutes of her heat against some of the leading figures on the South American circuit.

Matilda Bultó continues to gain experience on the international stage following her participation in the WSL REMA Saquarema Surf Festival, a competition taking place from September 14 to 20 at Praia de Itaúna. This year, the event has QS 6000 International status, making it the only event of this level in the Americas.

The competition takes place at one of the most renowned venues in Brazilian surfing, with Itaúna taking center stage during a week that also features skateboarding, music, cinema, sustainability and surf culture activities.

In Round 1, Bultó faced British surfer Sky Brown and Brazilian Aurora Ribeiro in a heat marked by the search for good opportunities in the Itaúna waves. The Chilean opened her campaign with a 4.63 and later added a 3.27, reaching a total of 7.90 points.

With that score, Matilda finished second in the heat behind Sky Brown, who took first place with 9.83 points, while Aurora Ribeiro finished with 4.93. The result allowed the Chilean representative to advance to the Round of 64 in a championship that brings together surfers from different countries and awards a significant number of points toward the WSL Qualifying Series.

In the Round of 64, Bultó returned to the water to face a challenging field consisting of Peruvian Daniella Rosas, leader of the South American ranking; Australian Lucy Darragh; and Brazilian Maria Eduarda Cesar, currently sixth in the regional ranking.

The Chilean representative opened her heat with a 3.67 and later added a 2.90, reaching a combined score of 6.57 points. The heat remained open until the final minutes, with Matilda looking for an opportunity that would allow her to move up the standings and get closer to the advancing positions.

In the end, Maria Eduarda Cesar took first place with 9.06 points, followed by Daniella Rosas with 7.67, Lucy Darragh in third with 6.96, and Matilda Bultó finishing the heat with 6.57 points. Despite the result, Matilda's time in Saquarema allowed her to compete at one of the most important venues on the Qualifying Series calendar.

As a member of the Queen of the Wave project, she had the opportunity to face surfers from different countries, where every heat, every wave and every step forward became part of a process that the young Chilean continues to build far from home.
