The Chilean surfer from Arica is already in Costa Rica to compete in the fifth stop of the 2026 ALAS Global Tour, which will take place from August 19 to 22 at Playa Hermosa.

The four-star event will feature more than 230 competitors from 18 countries: Germany, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Spain, the United States, Guatemala, Israel, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Puerto Rico, Uruguay and Venezuela.

As for the Chilean representative, he will face the challenge of competing in both the Open and Under-18 divisions, with the goal of making the most of every heat, advancing through the rounds and continuing to strengthen his competitive career on the Latin American circuit. Both divisions feature strong international participation, with more than 60 surfers in Open and more than 40 in Under-18.

Another major attraction of the event is the number of points at stake, as the winner of the Open division will receive 4,000 points, a figure that could make an important difference in the rankings and increase the significance of every heat held at Playa Hermosa.

The organization has also highlighted the event’s Olympic projection, presenting the stop under the concept “Your road to the Olympic Games passes through Playa Hermosa,” emphasizing the Costa Rican venue as an important opportunity for athletes looking to progress in high-performance surfing toward a potential Olympic qualification.

Adding to the competitive importance of the event are the conditions expected during the competition. According to the Surfline forecast, the swell is expected to increase on Friday, August 21 and Saturday, August 22, with waves potentially reaching 4 to 5 feet, while the forecast for Thursday, August 20 and Sunday, August 23 indicates waves of 3 to 4 feet.

The conditions could also offer opportunities for more experienced surfers, as, with the right tide, there may be a chance to find barrel sections at Playa Hermosa. For Lucas, these conditions represent an opportunity to test his repertoire and adaptability in an international setting.

Playa Hermosa is therefore preparing to host an event where conditions could progressively increase in difficulty throughout the competition. Lucas Magna is now waiting for the start of the event, with the 4,000 points at stake and the opportunity to continue progressing on the road toward the Olympic Games among the main incentives.
