Charrier and Imbica Reach the Podium at Itacoatiara Big Wave

The duo claimed third place and delivered an outstanding performance in one of Brazil’s premier big wave competitions.


The event was held in the Tow-In format, in which surfers use personal watercraft to gain speed and take on Itacoatiara’s powerful waves. Conditions were challenging, with waves reaching between three and four meters.



During the semifinals, Dominique Charrier and Paulo Imbica scored a 6.33-point wave, a result that allowed them to advance to the final after finishing second in their heat. First place went to the Brazilian duo, who scored 9.00 points, while the Australian representatives finished third with 5.77 points and were eliminated from the competition.


In the final, the duo once again faced challenging conditions and set out in search of the best opportunities. Charrier focused mainly on left-hand waves, while Imbica played a key role in towing and positioning, allowing the Chilean surfer to take advantage of the larger waves.

During the heat, Charrier scored a 4.17-point wave and continued searching for new opportunities throughout the sets. The Chilean also tried different lines and tube entries, showing confidence in a demanding setting that required precision and commitment.


In the final minutes, the duo continued their search until finishing with a combined score of 10.30 points, enough to secure third place in the competition. The title went to Michelle Des Bouillons and Ian Cosenza with 16.37 points, while Michaela Fregonese and Gabriel Sampaio finished second with a total of 12.77.

With this result, Dominique Charrier and Paulo Imbica closed out a strong performance at Itacoatiara, sharing an international podium in a competition that brought together some of the leading names in big wave surfing.
